Project Need
In a 2019 report, Californians throw away six pounds of trash every day, which is the equivalent to almost 2,200 pounds every year, roughly the weight of a subcompact car. Moreover, we have a packaging material crisis that fills our local landfill and needs to be urgently addressed. Our team selected this civic engagement campaign to outreach to the community to take small steps to protect our planet. This aligns with our impact area because the community deserves a safe city that is free of litter and toxins (ie. from improper battery disposal). |
Mission
A Latinx female team incorporating engineering design and STEM skills to empower their community to keep the planet green. Anticipated Outcomes
Tangible community services Recycle Bins Distribution Aluminum Water Bottles Replacements |
Civic Engagement
To have a greater reach in the Los Angeles County and beyond, the team will seek creative and tangible ways. Then, we will actively promote the importance of recycling to local elementary and middle schools. We will provide recycling receptacles on campus. Lastly, by distributing single use containers to aluminum reusable bottles on campus, we are reducing the landfill and harmful toxins. |
